Primary Blog/College Baseball/Building Champions: A Season of Growth with the ACU Development Team

The crack of the bat, the smell of fresh-cut grass, and the relentless Arizona sun—there’s something special about baseball season at Arizona Christian University. This year, I had the privilege of coaching the ACU Development Team, a group of young men dedicated to refining their skills, growing in faith, and learning what it takes to compete at the next level.

A Season of Progress

From the first practice to the final out of the season, our team was built on one foundational belief: development is the key to success. Whether it was extra reps in the batting cages, long hours perfecting footwork, or pushing through tough moments in games, our guys committed themselves to getting better every day.

Early in the season, we focused on fundamentals—hitting mechanics, defensive positioning, and mental toughness. We knew that talent alone wouldn’t get us where we wanted to be. It would take discipline, hard work, and an unshakable belief in each other.

Faith, Brotherhood, and Baseball

One of the most rewarding aspects of coaching at ACU is the opportunity to blend faith and competition. Baseball teaches life lessons: resilience after failure, the value of preparation, and the power of trust. Throughout the season, we reminded our players that while wins and losses matter, our ultimate goal is glorifying God through the game we love.

Pre-game prayers, team devotionals, and moments of reflection were just as important as batting averages and ERA. We saw players grow not just as athletes, but as men of faith, learning to lean on God in tough times and celebrate His blessings in the victories.

Moments That Defined Us

Every season has moments that stand out, and this year was no exception. There were games where we found ourselves down late but battled back, showing the heart of a team that refuses to quit. There were highlight plays—walk-off hits, diving catches, and clutch strikeouts—that reminded us why we play this game.

But more than anything, it was the growth of our players that defined this season. Some guys came in struggling with confidence at the plate but ended the season driving the ball with authority. Others learned how to lead—finding their voice in the dugout, encouraging teammates, and setting the tone for what it means to be a Firestorm ballplayer.

Looking Ahead

The beauty of a development team is that it’s just the beginning. This season was about laying the foundation—preparing these young men for bigger opportunities ahead. Some will move up to the varsity level, ready to contribute. Others will continue honing their craft, fueled by the lessons learned this year.

No matter where their paths lead, I know one thing for certain: they are better players, better teammates, and better men than when they started this journey. And that’s what true development is all about.

To the ACU Development Team—thank you for your hard work, your dedication, and your faith. This season was special, and I can’t wait to see where your baseball journey takes you next.

Firestorm Forever.
